Pow Wows

Native American Pow Wows in South Dakota, Nebraska, and California.

Pierre, South Dakota, Pow Wow

Pow Wow | Pierre, South Dakota

The Pow Wow in Pierre South Dakota was my first ever Pow Wow. It was very fascinating to me. I spent all day and into the evening hours photographing the members of the Lakota tribe dancing, singing and drumming in their Native American regalia. I chose to process the photos in black and white because I wanted to capture the essence of their Native Pride and passion.

Fort Robinson Pow Wow in Nebraska

Fort Robinson Pow Wow | Nebraska

The Pow Wow at Fort Robinson in Nebraska was like experiencing living history. The Oglala Sioux Tribe put on a spectacular show with their dance and regalia. The Pow Wow took place during one of the hottest Summers in Nebraska’s history, but the heat didn’t deter neither the Native Pride or my photo taking.

Spearfish, South Dakota Pow Wow

Pow Wow | Spearfish, South Dakota

The Spearfish Pow Wow in South Dakota was held in the early spring. The Lakota Sioux tribe put on their best regalia and danced to ancient songs of their ancestors. I was there in awe with my camera. The event was held indoors in a high school gym and was a great relief from the long Winter in the Black Hills. I processed the photos in color to feature the beautiful regalia. Some of these photos were published in a nation Native American magazine.
