Feiya's Ibis drawing created on her phone.

Feiya’s Phone Renderings

Feiya has become interested in anime these past months and it’s been influencing her drawings. I’ve seen her watching drawing lessons on YouTube and practicing in her sketch pad. I wish she had that passion for her homework. But I get it, anime and drawing are so much more fun than math. I’m finding that teaching is a tough nut to crack. Teachers earn their pay and I’m not sure if that’s a job for me. st So, here’s a proud dad moment for me. I’m very glad she’s found something that she can express herself with. This was done with the Ibix app on her iPhone. She wants a new iPad for Christmas so she could have a bigger screen. Of course, Ibix isn’t available on Android or PC. We’ll see how her grades go. Everything else has been going pretty well. I’m really busy with work. That is good that real estate is still humming along. Dana voted for the first time ever this past week. Not sure if our vote has been counted yet or not. Nevada has some interesting politics. Not place to say anything, I just moved here. She was very happy to vote nevertheless. …

1st day of school, Las Vegas.

August Update

Made it through August! Even though it was hot as hell here in Vegas, it wasn’t a bad month. I was steady at work for most of the month. Which is good, I like it when I’m not thinking about anything other than work. I like the focus. Home life is pretty well on auto-pilot during the week. We don’t go out much on the weekends, so we cook all weekend long. We fill up the fridge for the week! It works out pretty well. Feiya started school last week. She hit a couple bumps during the first week. The 2nd day she fell asleep and missed 3 classes. She’s had perfect attendance since. Her workload isn’t too bad yet. It’s nice to see her have some structure. The first few days she complained a lot. Today and yesterday I haven’t heard any complaining or moaning. I think she’s getting into the groove. She just spent the better part of the last 6 months cooped up inside. Her only solace has been two sleepovers she spent at her friend’s house this past month. The activity and having purpose is doing her well. There were a couple of rough days last …

Cooking Mexican food for our Sunday meal.

Mexican Food- Sunday Meal

First Sunday meal in the new place Well, that went ok. The kitchen performed flawlessly. The new gas range is a pure joy to cook with. I think it’s been since I lived in Rapid City, South Dakota since I had a kitchen with a gas stove. Cooking on that stove was a thrill in its self. Now that the thrift stores are open again, I’ll see if I can find some decent pots and pans. I was able to use my brand new Japanese chef knife that I paid $11.99 for on Amazon. It did pretty good. I have a genuine Ginsu knife arriving tomorrow. I’ll be able to slice through an aluminum can AND a tomato. I won’t take that kind of power lightly. Enchiladas The main dish today was enchiladas. We followed a recipe from allrecipes.com. We didn’t follow it to a tee, but we didn’t stray to far from it either. The seasoning on the chicken breasts was Feiya’s idea. We mixed paprika, salt, chili powder, and cumin together. It was pretty tasty, but in the end you really couldn’t taste it in the finished dish. The salsa verde was the highlight of the day! Very …

May 2020 Update | Summerlin

It’s May 7th and they just announced today that Vegas will start reopening this weekend. It’s a slow reopen, as expected, but its a step getting past this pandemic. Good news to start a new month. Last month was a tough one. I’m sure everyone shares my sentiments. We finally moved. We’ve been in our new place for a week now. We love it! We’re planning our first Sunday meal this coming weekend. We’re going to cook Mexican food- enchiladas, chile rellenos, and roasted corn. We pretty well much have everything on hand, just hope we’ll be able to get some chicken. Rumor has it there’s a meat shortage. We’ll see when we go shopping. I’m hoping to take some photos and I’ll try to write about it. I know it sounds like any of our other Sunday meals, but it’s not. Although, the kitchen still needs to be better equipped, this will be the first real kitchen Feiya will cook in. Since arriving in 2013, Feiya has shown a passion for food. I hope this is where she learns to cook and takes that skill through her entire life. So, stay tuned… It took us longer than we thought …
