Seattle Vacation 2021

We rolled the dice a few months ago and booked a flight and hotel in Seattle for June. I was just playing around with flight prices and saw some great deals. Not knowing if things were going to be open or not we booked the flight anyway. It paid off.

We stayed at the Courtyard Marriot Seattle Downtown. It was nice. I asked for a view when we checked in and the front desk clerk said she couldn’t change our room because we booked the room with Expedia. I do recommend booking hotel rooms directly through the hotel itself. Best way is to pick up the phone and call them. I should have done that.

Oh well, our room was on the 12th floor and we did have a nice view of the Columbia Center building. There was a building that provided services for the homeless next to our building and I saw some interesting things in the alley below. Interesting things!

California, What More Can I Say?

Since I was a boy, I always dreamed of living in California. The usual cliches– the beach, the sun, and the laid back lifestyle, swirled in my mind as what the perfect life was like. I knew it wasn’t true. Just nice thoughts. So, I never really wanted to go to California. …

I loaded up the Kia in November 2012 and took the leap of faith and moved to California. I was lean, happy, and very optimistic. All the things you need in California.

Highmore Rodeo, Highmore South Dakota

Out Yonder in South Dakota

Can’t say my time in South Dakota was all a good time. It was a very lonely time. However, I spent that time very productively. I wrote voraciously. I drowned myself in photography, both film and digital. And, I lost over 100lbs while metamorphosing myself.

I was sober, focused, and aware. Looking back it was a splendid time. Every weekend, during the good weather months, I would find some action packed event. Most of them cost a few dollars to get in and I could free roam with my camera in hand. I was like an alien visiting another planet. I didn’t care, this was some of the best photo ops I’d ever see in my lifetime. Rodeos and Pow Pows were especially special. That was living breathing culture. Earth to Ed, are you there?

1st day of school, Las Vegas.

August Update

Made it through August! Even though it was hot as hell here in Vegas, it wasn’t a bad month. I was steady at work for most of the month. Which is good, I like it when I’m not thinking about anything other than work. I like the focus. Home life is pretty well on auto-pilot during the week. We don’t go out much on the weekends, so we cook all weekend long. We fill up the fridge for the week!

It works out pretty well. Feiya started school last week. She hit a couple bumps during the first week. The 2nd day she fell asleep and missed 3 classes. She’s had perfect attendance since. Her workload isn’t too bad yet. It’s nice to see her have some structure. The first few days she complained a lot. Today and yesterday I haven’t heard any complaining or moaning.

Guy in the Mirror | I’m going to stop counting the posts here

Last day of June! We had to figure that June was going to be a rough month. Not as rough as it was weird. We’re just 1 day away from shoving off to Utah for a much needed extended weekend. As I mentioned before we’re going to stay in the Capitol Reef National Park area. We’re really stoked. Even though we’re not leaving until the day after tomorrow Dana and I started packing today. I never pack for a trip until the day before. It’s been over a year since our last vacation. Last year in 2019 we went back to Illinois to visit my family. A bitter sweet trip. My mother was in the early stages of Alzheimer’s disease. It was the last time she will know who I am. It’s a hard pill to swallow sometimes. I have it easy though. My sister Cyndi deserves a lot of credit. She’s been doing all the heavy lifting. My sister Kit and brother Jim contribute as well too. It’s not an easy thing to be part of. So, cheers to my Illinoisan family! We took that trip 1 year and 2 months ago. I’m not sure if we could really …
