Street

Fremont Street & The Strip | Las Vegas

I had some down time at work this week and was able to play tourist. My first stop was my favorite Las Vegas hangout, Fremont Street. Fremont Street is a great spot for people watching and street photography. I usually go in the mornings when it’s low key and easy going. This time there was a lot of construction as they are updating the canopy. The light show will be seen during the day. They had half of it completed. Anyway, I was able to get some shots off. I posted my favorites here.

My 2nd stop was the Strip. I parked at Paris Las Vegas. I was able to hit the front of the Bellagio, Caesars Palace, and Planet Hollywood. This is one of the busiest parts of the Strip as far as pedestrian traffic. Still, on a Thursday late morning it was busy, but far from crowded. I was able to get a few shots and posted them here.

Iron County Fair PRCA Rodeo 2019 in Parowan, Utah.

Iron County Fair 2019 | Parowan, Utah

I couldn’t miss the opportunity to go see the PRCA Rodeo at the Iron County Fair. As you can see from the pages of this blog that I’m a big fan of rodeos. I start photographing them in late 2010 while living in Huron, South Dakota. Throughout my moving around in the Dakotas from Dickinson, North Dakota and onto Rapid City, South Dakota, I always made sure to attend the local rodeos during the summer months. Those days are some of the best days I can remember looking through my view finder.

So, I was very glad to see that a PRCA rodeo was going to be happening just up the rode from Cedar City while we were going to be staying there. I couldn’t get up to the fence like I used to and get those killer close up shots. I took some with my zoom lens from the stadium seats. It was the experience of being at a rodeo that made all the difference.

I also took some shots around the fair grounds. I wish I could have spent so,e more time meandering through the carnival rides, games, and food trucks taking many more photos. But, I got a few keepers and it made the trip worthwhile.

Las Vegas street photography

Street Photography on Fremont Street | Las Vegas, Nevada

Living in Las Vegas, Fremont Street is my go to place for street photography. As an early morning riser I like to go down there before the crowds and get cleaner shots. Of course, I think going after dark would offer some great shots as well, but I just haven’t gone there at night, yet. Anyway, I like Vegas in the early mornings. Before moving here when I would visit I always enjoyed getting up early and going to the coffee shop and to sit, drink coffee, and people watch. The mornings in Vegas are always calm, but still have that Vegas energy. People up and about early in the morning are usually die hard gamers, retirees, or people watchers like myself. Doing street photography in the morning on Fremont Street is a lot like sipping coffee and watching from afar. The crowds are thin giving me a lot of buffer and open space to work with. I like clean shots with isolated subjects. Fremont Street in the early morning hours provides just that. These shots were taken during the National Finals Rodeo which would explain the cowboys.
