Last day of June! We had to figure that June was going to be a rough month. Not as rough as it was weird. We’re just 1 day away from shoving off to Utah for a much needed extended weekend. As I mentioned before we’re going to stay in the Capitol Reef National Park area. We’re really stoked. Even though we’re not leaving until the day after tomorrow Dana and I started packing today. I never pack for a trip until the day before.
It’s been over a year since our last vacation. Last year in 2019 we went back to Illinois to visit my family. A bitter sweet trip. My mother was in the early stages of Alzheimer’s disease. It was the last time she will know who I am. It’s a hard pill to swallow sometimes. I have it easy though. My sister Cyndi deserves a lot of credit. She’s been doing all the heavy lifting. My sister Kit and brother Jim contribute as well too. It’s not an easy thing to be part of.
So, cheers to my Illinoisan family! We took that trip 1 year and 2 months ago. I’m not sure if we could really consider it a vacation. Before that it was Sept. 2018 when we went to China. The trip was epic for me. I fell in love with street photography. Although, I haven’t been able to do much since then. Too nervous I suppose. Vegas is a street photography paradise. I’ll do more of it, I promise!
We’re really in need of a break. Even though it will only be 4 days and the better part of 2 of those days will be driving. I’m taking my old Canon 6D DSLR. It’s the first real camera that I shot real estate with and I loved that camera! With the exception of the Nikon D1x I used when I worked with Greenbanker. I really didn’t like that camera at all. I was already married to Canon. I really don’t want to sit here and write about cameras.
The significance of me taking the 6D is that I haven’t lugged around a DSLR with 2-3 lens in a long time. I better get some damn good pictures. The last few outings I was a little disappointing in the Sony A6000. Sure it’s not in the same line as a full frame camera, but technology should over come that. Right? Don’t get me wrong, I’ve gotten same damn good photos with that little camera, but the photos have been lacking the depth I’ve been used to in a RAW file. It’s a good camera, but just good for everything. Dana is going to use it, so it’s going along anyway. We’ll see.
So, after all of that, here’s my latest Guy in the Mirror pictures. There’s only 3 this time. I’m still having fun with it. I’ll start moving out of the bathroom when I can. I hope everyone has a great holiday! We’ll get through these times. Everything is temporary.
