Few places have stirred my emotions like the time I visited Wounded Knee, South Dakota. This is a very somber place that marks two very sad moments in our history. Native Americans have been treated very poorly in our history and still do not have a fair voice in our society as of today. I strongly recommend anyone visiting the Great American Landmarks such as Mt. Rushmore and the Black Hills in and around Rapid City to take the extra time to drive out to Pine Ridge Indian Reservation and visit the Wounded Knee site. You truly can’t know greatness until you also understand the mistakes that were made along the way to obtain that greatness. Here is more information on the Wounded Knee Massacre.
Badlands National Park in South Dakota is located just outside of Rapid City. I visited this park a few times while living there. Everytime I visited I was not disappointed. I took these photos during the Winter of 2011. I virtually had the park to myself and the lighting couldn’t have been better. This is one of those days that I remember very well, because I had such a good time. For more information Badlands National Park, South Dakota please click the link.
I lived in Huron, South Dakota for a short time around 2010. I look back on those fondly and remember that is was a welcoming small town with a lot of small town charm. Unfortunately, Huron had fell on some hard times long before my arrival and had retracted from its peak population. It still was a pleasant place to live nevertheless. While there I worked for the Huron Plainsman. You click the link to learn more about the happenings in Huron.
